I'm not crazy
Just doing some spring cleaning
Throwing things away
Listening to gut feeling

About who I love
And which ones really matter
Keeping those who
Don't climb me like a ladder

Understand, I will always love you
But I don't know if anything's getting through
The only thing you are ever willing to hear
Is a compliment and a quaint little “Yes, dear”

So I wonder what I really truly mean now
You won't tell me so I have to entertain myself

Sometimes I can't sleep
Wary about tomorrow
What I'll say to you
And if I'll choose to follow

I know I don't ask for much
Just a little confirmation
A pat on the arm
Not an angry retaliation

Understand, I will always love you
But I don't know if anything's getting through
The only thing you are ever willing to hear
Is a compliment and a quaint little “Yes, dear”

I feel like I'm scrutinized
Whenever I open my mouth
And If I'm not hypnotized
By what's coming out of yours
Then you think I must be really truly bored
That time spent with you clearly is abhorred

Perhaps I've just said too much
But it's everything you need to know, oh!

Understand, I will always love you
But I don't know if anything's getting through
The only thing you are ever willing to hear
Is a compliment and a quaint little “Yes, dear”

Understand, as I now tell you
Your replacement will never be an issue
I just want you to speak into a mirror
For a time, and see things a bit clearer

This came to me in about ten minutes. Seriously, it's one of the few things I didn't have planned. And I'm thrilled about it!

Basically, I really love the melody to A Camp's "Stronger Than Jesus," so I wrote to it. This is partly a tribute and if it was ever recorded you'd see Nina and Nathan and Niclas's names in the credits booklet.

The actual lyric - I've been wanting to write about this person for a few days now, and I thought the lyric would be a bit "deeper." Or maybe just more tortured.

But I think I say everything I need to say right here. Sometimes it's better to be economical with one's language.

I was thinking of one person in particular. :icontsukashi: and :iconmistresslust: and :iconforever-innocent: will know who.

6/10/09 Edit: I added or changed three lines near the ending, and moved the "bridge" to a more appropriate spot.

I like how it has a lot to say, since you are talking about that person-but it's still open enough to be used against many people

Ehh...against is wrong word..but you know what I mean

Yay! Yes! Thank you, my love. I'm really glad that it was open-ended enough to be a bit more universal.

I think good pop music is both personal and universal.

I don't think I can imagine this working as a song, but as a poem, it is damn good! pours with emotion, more specifically of frustration and anxiety.

Thank you for your words!

I'm sad that you can't imagine it as a song, then - 'cuz then I've missed the mark a bit.

But thanks again!

well with a little revising here and there it can most likely change my mind, but hey, I don't even know how the song you imagined would sound, so don't listen to little ol me!

Awe, fair enough.

You should go to YouTube and listen to 'Stronger Than Jesus.' You'd like it.

I can really relate to this poem, especially a few months ago. It's great, I love it!

A system of morality which is based on relative emotional values is a mere illusion, a thoroughly vulgar conception which has nothing sound in it and nothing true.
